Conceição Calhau is a researcher at the Center for Health Technology and Services Research (CINTESIS), where she coordinates Thematic Line 1 – Preventive Medicine & Societal Challenges.
Full Professor at NOVA Medical School, she coordinates the Academic Field of Nutrition and Lifestyles. She has been vice director for Community Outreach since 2022. In 2018, she founded the Nutrition Sciences degree at NOVA Medical School, which she coordinates, and the Master’s Degree in Human Nutrition and Metabolism, which she also coordinates. She coordinates the Lifestyle Medicine University Unit at CUF.
With a degree in Nutrition Sciences from the Faculty of Nutrition and Food Sciences of the University of Porto (1996), she began her career at the Institute of Pharmacology and Therapeutics of the Faculty of Medicine of the same University (FMUP) in 1996, having been involved in teaching in Biochemistry, Nutrition, and Food Toxicology. In 2002, she completed her PhD at FMUP. In 2010, she took the Aggregation Exam at the same institution in metabolism.
With extensive experience in metabolism and human nutrition, Conceição Calhau has nearly 200 indexed scientific articles to her name, and her work focuses on the role of the intestinal microbiota in human health and disease. Nutrition, metabolism, and toxicology are some of her fields of interest.
