Carmen Jerónimo

PhD.

Carmen Jerónimo is Director of the Research Center of the Portuguese Oncology Institute of Porto (CI-IPOP), Coordinator of the Epigenetics and Cancer Biology Group, and Scientific Coordinator of the Biobank of the same institution.

She graduated in Biology in 1994, obtained a Master’s degree in Oncology (1998), a PhD in Biomedical Sciences (2001), and an Aggregation in Pathology and Molecular Genetics (2011) from the University of Porto.

She is a Visiting Full Professor of Biopathology, Oncobiology, and Epigenetics at the School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences of the University of Porto (ICBAS-UP).

Her research work in precision oncology focuses on developing new epigenetic cancer biomarkers based on liquid biopsies and the discovery of epi-drugs that model epigenetic aberrations in tumor cells and the immune system. More recently, she has been studying the contribution of non-coding RNA modifications to malignant transformation and their interaction with epigenetic mechanisms.
