António Sousa Barros is a member of the Scientific Council of RISE – Health Research Network, a researcher at the Cardiovascular Research Centre (UnIC), and a doctorate equivalent to an assistant researcher at the Department of Surgery and Physiology of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Porto (FMUP).
In 1999, he completed his Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry with a specialization in Data Science – BigData, and he went on to post-doctorate at the University of Aveiro where, between 2000 and 2002, he developed the project “Development and implementation of chemometric techniques in spectral data and electronic nose.” With his extensive experience in multivariate and multivariable statistics and expertise in clinical data, metabolomics, proteomics, transcriptomics, and image analysis, he was appointed technical advisor to the European project ASTEQ-Artificial Sensing Techniques for Evaluating Quality.
Between 2003 and 2015, he was an Assistant Researcher at the University of Aveiro in the QOPNA research group, where he worked on food systems, pregnancy, cancer, and age-related diseases. He co-founded FoodMetric SA.
His research focuses on biostatistics, bioinformatics, machine learning, and predictive modeling.
