Inês Falcão-Pires
Inês Falcão-Pires is the principal investigator of the Reverse Myocardial Remodeling research group at the Cardiovascular Research Centre (UnIC) and a full professor at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Porto (FMUP), where she is vice-president of the Council of Representatives, a member of the Ethics Committee, and the Scientific Council of the Master’s Degree in Cardiovascular Pathophysiology and the Doctoral Program in Cardiovascular Sciences.
She graduated in Biology from the University of Aveiro. She has a master’s in Cell Biology from the University of Coimbra and a PhD in Human Biology from FMUP since 2009. Her doctorate was carried out in collaboration with the Department of Physiology at the Vrije University Medical Center (VUMC), where she worked on topics such as the impact of diabetes mellitus on the mechanisms underlying diastolic dysfunction and heart failure with preserved ejection fraction.
Currently, her line of research focuses on the determinants of (reverse) cardiac remodeling in patients with aortic stenosis and experimental models and, more recently, in pregnant women as a “human” model to study the metabolic adaptations of the myocardium to cardiac remodeling. She is the author of more than 100 scientific articles.
